The STAR System Keeps You Safe in Every Toyota Model

The STAR System Keeps You Safe in Every Toyota Model

The Toyota STAR system is a package that includes 6 vital active safety features and it is standard on every model in the lineup.

What it includes

The Toyota STAR system includes the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), the Traction Control (TRAC), the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), the Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), the Brake Assist (BA) and the Smart Stop Technology. All of these systems have proven invaluable to automotive safety since they have been made standard on all Toyota vehicles more than 10 years ago.

The systems that help you brake

The Anti-Lock Brakes, the Electronic Brake Force Distribution, the Brake Assist and the Smart Stop Technology are all designed with the goal to improve braking performance. If the wheels begin to lock, the ABS momentarily releases the brake pressure in the affected brakes to keep them all turning. The BA shortens the stopping distances by applying the full braking pressure as soon as you step on the brake pedal in an emergency situation. The Smart Stop Technology prevents unwanted accelerations by cutting engine power as soon as both pedals are pushed simultaneously, which could happen in a moment of panic. Finally, the purpose of the EBD can be visualised by imagining riding a bike. If you squeeze the front brake too hard, you risk flying over the handlebars. In a car, the rear wheels tend to lift up, which causes a loss of control. EBD regulates the brake pressure to avoid this.

The systems that help you steer

Also part of the Toyota STAR system are the Traction Control and the Vehicle Stability Control. Both of these systems are engineered to prevent a loss of traction by reducing the engine’s power and by using the brakes to help steer the vehicle out of a skid. The Traction Control also makes it easier to start on slippery surfaces, where the wheels tend to accelerate quicker than the car is actually moving.
