2020 Toyota Highlander: Bigger. Bolder. Better.

2020 Toyota Highlander: Bigger. Bolder. Better.

Over the many years, the Toyota Highlander has been in existence, it has grown in size, in stature and in technology. All good things. And this latest iteration of the already much-loved three-row SUV from Toyota is set to be the best one yet.

For 2020, Toyota’s upped their efficiency game, and once again offered up a hybrid version of the SUV that’s a step up from the previous generation. With a 2.5L inline-4 coupled with two electric motors and a nickel-metal hybrid battery, the 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid produces 243 combined horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. If Hybrid isn’t your thing, there’s also a 3.5L V6 on offer (as in previous models) that’s good for 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque.

For those interested in the gas version, there is an FWD and AWD available, and both are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Those who prefer the Hybrid will find their Toyota Highlander equipped with an E-CVT and FWD with an optional electric all-wheel drive.

While the 2020 Toyota Highlander looks much, much larger from the outside, in reality, it’s not THAT much bigger. It’s more an illusion of the overall exterior design. However, Toyota engineers and designers did add a few extra litres to the rear cargo bay, making it slightly larger back there.

However, inside the 2020 Toyota Highlander, you’ll find standard Toyota fare, and all the technological and comfort amenities you’d come to expect in the 3-row SUV. From Apple CarPlay to Android Auto, Bluetooth and a host of available driver-assist safety features, the Toyota Highlander is built to keep you and your family connected and safe on the road – and all at once.

And for all those worried that the front dash storage shelves may have disappeared; fear not! They remain! And they are much more seamlessly integrated into the centre stack and dashboard design. There is an available 12.3” centre touchscreen, but only on upper trim levels.
